The PEER AWARDS Foundation is a private foundation, which derives its grant-making funds primarily from the contributions of profit-making business events and activities, currently consisting of the annual PEER AWARDS presentation banquet.

Having successfully fostered and nurtured the event over the past four years, the directors of AMK have taken the decision to now hand over the event to the foundation. This was always the plan of the directors, a decision which was taken when the event was first set up. The directors are of the view that under the management of a foundation The PEER AWARDS will derive its own independence and essentially better posited to attract the funding required achieving the goals and mission of the Foundation.

The PEER AWARDS will therefore no longer be an AMK event, but a fund raising event staged annually by the Peer Awards Foundation. All revenues will therefore be for the exclusive account of the foundation.

AMK COMMUNICATIONS at the discretion of the foundation may be retained to provide professional services, but in every respect the foundation is a separate, legal organization, with its own endowment, and is subject to the same rules and regulations as other private foundations.

The PEER AWARDS Foundation is a strategic resource for innovative marketing people and institutions.

The Foundation's goals are to:

> Strengthen professional marketing growth and development
> Increase opportunities for professional marketing development
> Promote regional and international marketing co-operation
> Advance the growth and development of market and marketing research

About The PEER AWARDS Foundation

A fundamental challenge facing every society is to create political, economic and social systems that promote peace, human welfare and the sustainability of the environment on which life depends.

The PEER AWARDS Foundation believes that the best way to meet this challenge is to encourage initiatives by those working and studying closest to the problems; to promote collaboration among public and the private business sectors, and to ensure participation by men and women from diverse communities and at all levels of society. Such activities help build common understanding, enhance excellence, enable people to improve their lives and reinforce their commitment to society.

The PEER AWARDS Foundation is one source of support for these activities. The foundation will work mainly by making grants, financial contributions, loans, and scholarships, etc, that build knowledge and strengthen individuals, organizations and networks.

Funding & Other Revenue Sources

The foundations primary source of revenue will be net revenues derived from the staging of the annual PEER AWARDS, which is currently funded from cash sponsorships and event ticket sales. Now in its fifth year this annual event is now an established event on the local marketing calendar.

Under the management of the foundation it is anticipated that increased funding will be derived from corporate enterprise and individuals, sufficient to generate the surplus required to fund the foundations activities.

Since the financial resources will be modest in comparison to expected needs, the Foundation will focus on a limited number of areas and programme strategies within our broad goals on an annual basis.

It is anticipated that additional funds will be derived from an investment portfolio to be established and maintained with a percentage of funds derived from annual revenues. This diversified portfolio will be managed to provide a perpetual source of support for the Foundation's programs and operations.

The Foundation will operate as a local philanthropy in Jamaica and will be expanded to become a regional and international foundation over time

Programmes and fundings

In the area of educational assistance, the Foundation will seek to enhance the capacity of schools and higher education institutions to broaden access to marketing information while pursuing higher levels of student achievement.

In higher education and scholarship, the Foundations goal will be to build and sustain access to fields of knowledge that deepen scholarship and public understanding of marketing and marketing practice. In the area of Research the Foundation will seek to promote and support by way of grant funding responsible research and to develop appropriate channels of distribution for the findings that serve the needs of the marketing community, the society at large and its diverse constituencies.

In areas of Technology, the Foundations goal will be to strengthen opportunities for greater artistic creativity and expression that will generate the hope, understanding, courage and confidence needed to help fulfill the full potential of marketers.

Grants and Programme-Related Investments to Organizations

Before a request is made for a grant or programme-related investment, a brief letter of inquiry is advisable to determine whether the Foundation's present interests and funds permit consideration of the request.

The letter should include:

> The purpose of the project for which funds are being requested
> Problems and issues the proposed project will address
> Information about the organization conducting the project
> Estimated overall budget for the project
> Period of time for which funds are requested
> Qualifications of those who will be engaged in the project

After receiving the letter, Foundation staff members may ask the grant seeker to submit a formal proposal.

There is no grant application form.

The proposal should include:

> The organization's current budget
> A description of the proposed work and how it will be conducted
> The names and curriculum vitae of those engaged in the project
> A detailed project budget
> Present means of support and status of applications to other funding sources
> Legal and tax status
> In some instances, the Foundation requires the grantee organization to match Foundation's grant with funds from other sources

The Foundation supports pluralism and equal opportunity in its grant making and in its internal policies. The opportunities that prospective grantee organizations provide for minorities and women are considered in evaluating proposals.

Applications are considered FOUR (4) times each year. Normally applicants may expect to receive within six weeks, an indication of whether their proposals are within the Foundation's program interests and budget limitations.

Activities supported by grants and program-related investments must be charitable, educational or scientific.

The Foundation monitors grants through regular financial and narrative reports submitted by the grantee.

The foundation directs its support to activities that are within its current interests and are likely to have wide effect. Support is not normally given for routine operating costs of institutions or for religious activities. Except in rare cases, funding is not available for the construction or maintenance of buildings.

Grants to Individuals

The Foundation will also make grants to individuals and are limited to research, training and other activities related to program interests.

The Foundation will give consideration to undergraduate scholarships but will not make grants for purely personal needs. Support for graduate fellowships is generally provided through grants to universities and other organizations, which are responsible for the selection of recipients. Most Foundation grants to individuals are awarded either through publicly announced competitions or on the basis of nominations from universities and other non-profit institutions. In all cases, recipients are selected on the merits of their proposals and on their potential contribution to advancing the Foundation's program objectives.

The Foundation's Board of Trustees

A twelve (12) - member Board of Trustee, drawn from the marketing community, related educational and training institutions, manages the PEER AWARDS Foundation.
