Congrats Dunlop, CGR
& Marketing Counsellors

Marketing Briefs takes this opportunity to congratulate Gurney Beckford, Greg McClure and the staff at Dunlop Corbin Communications for copping the Gleaner Company’s top billing award for highest volume of advertisements placed in the company’s various publications last year. Dunlop’s clients include Cable & Wireless Jamaica Ltd., Jamaica National Building Society, Air Jamaica, Burger King, Pepsi, the Bank of Nova Scotia, Wray and Nephew Ltd and Petcom.

The agencies awarded for second and third ighest volume of advertising for 2002 were CGR Communications and Marketing Counsellors respectively.

TVJ and CVM hike advertising rates

Effective February 01, 2003, advertisers will have to dig deeper in their pockets to advertise on both CVM and TVJ. Both stations recently hiked all their advertising rates, widening the margin between itself and competitior CVM. A 30-second weekday prime time spot for TVJ — 7:00 pm to 8:00pm — is now $26,500, up from $22,300, while a 60-second spot in the same time band now costs $39,750, up from $36,800.

CVM’s new rate sheet sees that station’s equivalent, the super prime time spot — 8:00pm to 9:00pm — increasing from $22,000 to $24,500 for 30 seconds and from $36,500 to $40,500 for 60 seconds.

AMK Communications has relocated

Balmoral House, 2 Balmoral Avenue, Kingston 10 is the new location for the coporate office of AMK Communictaions Group. The company moved from their Dominica Drive location in December, 2002 and if appearances are anything to go by, then AMK seems to have it made. But, as they say, appearances aren’t everything.

Anyway, all who have so far visited the new location have been duly impressed, and the view from the top floor is well worth it. The telephone numbers, we are told, remain the same.

CVM Sales & Marketing Team
looking even better

Recently, viewers have been treated to an inside look at CVM Television’s Sales & Marketing team with a new ad featuring Marketing Manager Chantal Hylton-Tonnes, Donovan Whyte and the rest of the team. It would be interesting to find out if this has had a positive effect on sales.

Incidentally, CVM at Sunrise (waking up will never be the same again?) is a definitely agood idea and certainly an improvement on what was there before. Will Lydia Thompson emerge as a formidalble morning anchor?

Guardian Asset Management’s baby on line

Cute. That’s the first word that came to mind when we saw the Guardian Asset Management’s ad with the baby pinned on the clothesline with the tag line: ‘Don’t leave your future hanging.” Babies always seem to add that memorable touch to an ad and Guardian certainly takes advantage of this. Their sister company Guardian Life Ltd has been using that adorable little girl on their calendar for at least three years now and that calendar not only gets rave reviews, for many persons the series has become a keepsake.

What’s up with the Peer Awards?

That’s the question enquiring minds are asking. Usually, by this time of the year, the ball would have already been rolling with the launch and nomination announcement well underway. This year, however, the silence is absolutely deafening. However, we understand that a Peer Awards Foundations has been formed and there are some big announcements to be made soon.
