Top Ten Jamaican Website

Dated: 1 February 2003

Hey folks! Here are our top 10 Jamaican websites on the Internet in that we think are the very best out there! Sorry if you don't like them, but this is just our opinion. Enjoy!!

Courts Jamaica Limited – Locally, we're still lagging behind when it comes to e-commerce sites, but the Courts site is a pleasant one — easy to navigate, and clean in layout. Forms requiring personal or financial information are on a secure server, to protect it from prying eyes. You can tell a page is secure by the little padlock in the lower right corner of your screen. Remember that a web page is not for decoration, and this site is definitely one that has a definite purpose — to sell. (www.courtsnm.com/jamaica/glogin.asp)

Irie FM - Very cool radio website. The colours are vibrant, and there is a lot of useful information on the site. Not just radio stuff, but something about Jamaican culture as well. Programmes are archived, so you can listen to old broadcasts (even though you have to pay, it’s not that expensive). Plus their mailing list keeps you updated on what's happening, and you can even post your event on the site, which was designed and developed by WEBfx. (www.iriefm.net)

Top5Jamaica.com - Top5Jamaica captures most Jamaican sites, and makes searching for local sites an easy job. It is better than even Yahoo in this regard. The site is attractive, and easy to navigate. The categories are quite logical, so you don't have many problems finding a site that's listed. For webmasters, submitting a site to the portal is quite easy and quick.
Blackeyegraphics - Simplicity in layout. Oftentimes, local websites are overloaded with all the bells and whistles - flash, animated gifs, etc, etc. For those of us who cannot afford the latest Dell machines, and are still struggling with older machines, too much flash and animation which take forever to download is not much fun. The Blackeye Graphics site uses a small amount of these fancy technologies, but is clean and attractive just the same. Navigation is easy, and it offers free stuff like screensavers and wallpapers with a Jamaican flavour. (www.blackeyegraphics.com)

Jamaica Money Market Brokers - Its pages are clean, uncluttered and load quickly – which like the battery bunny, just keep on going and going, and going. Except for the Moneyline, their interactive online account management services page, there are adequate links to move you about the site on each page, so you never get stuck on a page and have to use your back arrow to get out of it. As a client, you can view your account balances, detailed transaction history, request encashments, transfers and pay your bills from anywhere in the world 24 hours per day. If it is your first time on this page, you first have to create a username and password by registering. Registration is a quick and simple process, which takes only a few seconds. (www.jmmb.com)

Radio Jamaica Limited - Straightforward news. Easy to read, easy to load pages. Original content is the most important trait of a great Web site. Very little graphics, not too fussy. It gets right to the point. You can tell what it's about, and why you should read on, in the first screen. It's easy and logical in its organisation, and you can get to the information you seek in just a couple of clicks. (www.radiojamaica.com)
Coral Seas Resorts – This Website is very pleasing to the eye and ears… it makes you immediately feel relaxed. Its use of small, uncomplicated, quick-loading graphics makes it client-friendly. Its design is clean and simple, and its features are uniformly employed throughout the site, e.g. background graphic and colour, text colours, logos, accent graphics such as bullets and lines. When logged on to this site, you don’t have to wait long to know that this is a resort is in Jamaica, as the reggae instrumental playing in the background is its identity stamp. Bank of Jamaica - Simple to navigate, stocked with useful financial information. It gets right to the point. You can tell what it's about, and why you should read on, in the first screen. An easy navigation system so financially inclined surfers don't get frustrated trying to find the info they want. (www.boj.org.jm)

Sherwin Williams West Indies Limited - It gets right to the point. You can tell what it's about, and why you should read on, in the first screen. Consistent in design. Want to know the answers to your paint related questions, then their Ask Sherwin Williams page is chock full of all the information you’ll ever need about your paint concerns. (www.sherwin-williams.com)
Victoria Mutual Building Society (VMBS) - This Website is easy to navigate, and there is no overuse of Graphics or Pictures. You know whom you are dealing with, where they are, and how to reach them. It's easy and logical in its organisations, and you can get to the information you seek in just a couple of clicks (www.vmbs.com)

There you are folks! Sorry if you disagree. If you have a site that you think should have been listed here, send it to us at whytehalld@yahoo.co.uk.
